Asistir a un Festival de Cine de tipo “A”, Cannes, Sundance, San Sebastián o la Berlinale, demanda mucho más que visionar películas espectaculares, estrenos internacionales, o estar pendiente si te encuentras, hasta por casualidad, con las personalidades que son invitadas a este tipo de festivales. Más allá del evento de inauguración, la acostumbrada alfombra roja y los platos fuertes -cinematográficamente hablando-, en esta ocasión, que me encuentro en el Festival Internacional de Berlín, quiero indagar que es lo que hace tan particular esta cita cinéfila que logra reunir cada Febrero, la cantidad más considerable de público ( casi medio millón de afluencia) que asiste por un lapso de diez días a disfrutar de esta memorable fiesta del Cine  en una de las ciudades más bellas de Europa.

La Berlinale, se ha convertido en una plataforma que define y redefine los caminos más próximos de la cinematografía mundial. Es un espacio de encuentro, de formación cinematográfica de alta calidad, un espacio de transacciones del mercado del Cine y, sin lugar a dudas, una excusa perfecta para disfrutar de Berlín, siendo parte de un colectivo humano multicultural, cosmopolita y mayormente, con un elevado criterio personal y profesional. Pero más allá de todo esto, es un circuito bien organizado de proyecciones cinematográficas y artísticas que, como versa una de sus secciones más importantes, nos da un “Panorama” bien establecido de hacia que rumbos está mirando el cine contemporáneo global. Esta vez, mi interés se centra en algunas secciones específicas del Festival que me ayudarán a compartir con Ustedes, detalles importantes para entender porque esta cita es una de las más esperadas cada año, no solo por quienes, como mi persona, estamos interesados e interesadas en el análisis, la crítica, y por supuesto el deleite de un cine fresco, renovado y a su vez, social y políticamente comprometido.

Las secciones que me interesan y que estaré ampliando en siguientes publicaciones son: “Forum Expanded”, “Generation” y “Native: Un viaje al Cine Indígena”, lo que me parece que son pasos firmes y, al mismo tiempo, propuestas muy certeras para mover el mundo, a través del Cine, en aquellas direcciones que lo hagan avanzar hacia un prometedor futuro.

Attending to a mayor Film Festival, like Cannes, Sundance, San Sebastian or the Berlinale, demands so much more than watching spectacular movies, international premieres, or watching around to find, even by chance, the amazing personalities that are invited to this type of festivals. Beyond the inauguration event, the usual red carpet and the main courses on this elegant table -cinematographically speaking-, on this occasion, being at the International Festival of Berlin, I intend to investigate what makes this magnificent encounter so special, that it manages to reunite, each February, the most considerable amount of attendees (almost half a million of people) who come for around ten days in order to enjoy this memorable Film Party, in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

The Berlinale has become a platform that defines and redefines the next roads of world cinematography. It is a place for interactions, for high-quality cinematographic training, it is a transaction space for the film market and, without a doubt, a perfect excuse to enjoy Berlin, while being part of a multicultural, cosmopolitan human group with, most of all, a high personal and professional criteria. But beyond all this, it is a well-organized circuit of cinematographic and artistic projections that, as one of its most important sections, gives us a well-established «Panorama» of what horizons global contemporary cinema is looking at. This time, my interest is focused on some specific sections of the Festival that will help me share with you important details to understand why this event is one of the most anticipated each year, not only for those who, like me, are interested in the analysis, the critics, and of course the delight of a fresh, renewed and, at the same time, socially and politically engaged cinematography,

The sections that interest me and that I will be expanding in following publications are: «Forum Expanded», «Generation» and «Native: A trip to the Indigenous Cinema», which I strongly believe are firm steps and very accurate proposals to put the world, through Cinematography, towards those directions that make it move forward to a promising future.
